Subpoena power

The subpoenas are starting to come right and left. Yesterday, the various U.S. Attorneys who have been canned by Alberto Gonzales have been subpoenaed to appear before Congress on Tuesday -- in one case to tell us how Sen. Pete Domenici and Rep. Heather Wilson (both Republicans of New Mexico) tried to interfere in a Federal investigation of a Democrat running against Wilson (by trying to get his indictment accelerated so it would hurt his chances). Today, Henry Waxman was forced to subpoena Maj. Gen George Weightman after the Pentagon refused to allow him to testify about a contract to manage the medical center that was awarded to a company that couldn't even deliver ice to Katrina victims.

The house of cards is beginning to fall apart, I think.
