Tomorrow's supplemental appropriations vote
I have very mixed feelings about the Iraq supplemental that's coming to a vote in the House tomorrow. On the one hand, it gives Bush all the money he wants, and, while it purports to give him a deadline, it's a deadline Bush will ignore. So, in some respects, it's not very different from another AUMF. On the other hand, it does indeed given Bush a deadline. There's not much we can do if he chooses to ignore it (there will be only a few months left of his presidency -- too few to impeach or take him to court), but at least it's on the record.
If it doesn't pass, the House will almost certainly pass the funding measure without the deadline (the Democrats are just to damned weak-kneed to stop the funding). That's even worse. So, I guess I come down on the side "for" side of this one.
