One more failure
The lead story in today's NY Times informs us that al Qaeda is rebuilding in the mountains of western Pakistan with new leaders emerging:
While this story may be completely accurate, and I suspect it probably is, you still have to ask yourself who gave the info to the Times and why and why now. The past few weeks have not been at all good for the Bushies. Is this an effort to raise the terror threat level again to focus attention away from the other stuff? If so, I suspect it will fail. It simply reinforces the image of incompetence that the administration is portraying. One more failure on their watch.
WASHINGTON, April 1 — As Al Qaeda rebuilds in Pakistan’s tribal areas, a new generation of leaders has emerged under Osama bin Laden to cement control over the network’s operations, according to American intelligence and counterterrorism officials.
