Surging casualties

So much for the much discussed meme that the "surge" is working in Iraq:

At least 2,078 people died in Iraq last month, 15 percent more than in February despite a massive security crackdown in Baghdad, the epicentre of violence, a security official said on Sunday.

On average, 67 people died across the country every day in March, compared to 64 in February.

A significant increase in Iraqi civilian, army and police deaths was evident last month, the official said, based on detailed statistics collected by the defence, interior and health ministries.

Of course, the facts won't put the lies to bed. The Bushies don't look at facts. They believe we can all take a nice stroll down the wide boulevards of Baghdad to visit the hanging gardens.

Update:

Immediately after clicking the "publish" icon on this post I realized that March has 31 days and February only 28, which might explain all or part of the increase. Yes, it probably does explain some of it, since March was 10% longer than February, you might expect a 10% increase in casualties if the "surge" had no impact whatever. However, the actual increase was 15%, so, if anything, the "surge" has increased the casualty rate.
