Good news and bad

Maybe I'm just imagining things, but I have the sense that Bush and his Thuglican allies have been thrown completely off-stride by the fact that, so far at least, the Democrats haven't just caved in after his veto of the Iraq spending bill. They still seem to have some fight left, and I just learned from Talking Points Memo that Harry Reid will allow an up or down vote in the Senate on the Reid-Feingold bill to cut off funding for the war by March 31, 2008. Of course, that bill probably won't get a majority of the Senate, much less a veto proof majority, but it is something far from a cave in.

All is not good news, however. We have still to see whether the Dems have the moral fiber to do something about lobbying excesses, and the news there is not very good. Further, why hasn't anyone started an investigation of the government's violation of F.I.S.A? That should be on the top of the agenda. Unfortunately, I'm afraid most of the crowd of Dems running for Prez want to be able to spy on Americans too.

I don't think they can, or should, do everything at once. There is so much to do it boggles the mind -- and each one deserves the attention of Americans.
