Immigration
I'm not sure how I feel about the death of the immigration bill. Undoubtedly, it was the best bill that even had a chance of getting through this Congress and this White House. But, that said, it was a crappy bill. The fines [$5,000 I think] and "touchbacks" [forcing those living here to return home for a full year before returning] were far too severe to be realistic. Virtually none of the low end illegals could possibly have complied, so what was going to happen to them? Almost everyone has admitted that there is no feasible way to round up and deport 11 million (plus or minus) people. Further, the "guest worker" program was barely a step up from slave labor.
So, maybe it's better to let things continue as they are for awhile until after the next elections. I'm not sure.
