As Elvis once sang, "Don't be cruel"

I'm sorry, but I simply don't believe him:

WASHINGTON - President Bush signed an executive order Friday prohibiting cruel and inhuman treatment, including humiliation or denigration of religious beliefs, in the detention and interrogation of terrorism suspects.

I'm sure he's got his fingers crossed behind his back on this. There must be a signing statement or an overruling executive order somewhere. But, even if there isn't, this comes as essentially an admission that we have been using cruel and inhuman treatment up to this point.

The cats are out of the box on this one (the U.S. tortures) a long time ago, and it will be impossible for George Bush or Dick Cheney, or any Republican for that matter, to get them back in -- whatever the metaphor is.
