What an Unpatriotic Radical, That Sandra Day O'Connor

According to a report by Sarah Posner at Gadflyer, herself reporting on a Nina Totenberg NPR report, Sandra Day O’Connor in a speech yesterday said some very important things about the right-wingers who rail on and on about “judicial activists.” http://gadflyer.com/flytrap/

. . . . in a nutshell, O'Connor decried Republican attacks on an independent judiciary as a "direct threat to our constitutional freedoms." The speech shows just how far the extremists have veered the Republican Party from its traditional roots, that someone like O'Connor
would publicly mete out shame on all the panderers who go along with the topsy-turvy distortions of the founders' intentions by the radical wing of the party.

. . . . O'Connor rightly pointed out that the effectiveness of judges depends on confidence that they won't be subject to retaliation based on political whim, and that the founders specifically created an independent judiciary to protect individual
rights from the whim of the other branches of government. She denounced calls for judicial impeachment, jurisdiction stripping, and budget-cutting as tools for punishing judges who disagree with the partisan aims of a legislative majority.

If you want evidence that the Republican Party is no longer a genuinely conservative party, you can't get much better this from a Reagan appointee.
