Bell South's empty threat

Unless USA Today deliberately lied when it reported Bell South’s cooperation with the NSA – i.e., knew it did not have reliable information, and just did it anyway, thereby displaying reckless disregard for the truth – the reported threats by Bell South to sue for libel unless USA Today retracts the story should be seen as a total piece of crap – a completely worthless lawsuit that, under the New York Times v. Sullivan principles, should be tossed out on virtually the first day, with costs and attorneys’ fees assessed against Bell South for bringing a frivolous lawsuit.
