GLobal what?

The NY Times informs us today that a scientific commission appointed by President Bush has unanimously concluded that the earth is warming and that humans are contributing to it. As the Times puts it,

The finding eliminates a significant area of uncertainty in the debate over global warming, one that the administration has long cited as a rationale for proceeding cautiously on what it says would be costly limits on emissions of heat-trapping gases.

Does this alter the White House view in any way?

Of course not.

Their explanation: This was only the first of 21 studies they have commissioned. We have to wait for all 21 to be completed.

I guess we'll just have to wait for the one that's being conducted by the oil industry lobby. That's the only one that really counts.

Update: Matt Yglesias headlined his post on this: "Earth may be round, further study needed"
