Only in America

Only in America can a recently bankrupt airline raise $8 billion (mostly in its own stock) to buy another bankrupt airline:

ATLANTA - US Airways Group Inc. said Wednesday it has made an $8 billion cash and stock bid for Delta Air Lines Inc. in a deal that would create one of the world's largest carriers. The move came despite Delta's repeated statements it isn't interested in a merger.

[Yes, I know. US Airways Group is not US Air. But, most of it is. The rest is America West, which bought the bankrupt US Air last year.]
