Iranian elections

I haven't got a clue about Iranian politics, but those who claim to seem to think that Ahmadinejad suffered a fairly major defeat in Iran's latest elections, even though he wasn't running for anything. Ahmadinejad is a creep, so I guess this is good news, but I really don't know, since I have no idea whether the alternatives are a big improvement. It also sounds as though this was a big victory for the Supreme Ayatollah Khamenei since one of his rivals who is Ahmadinejad's mentor lost his race badly. Khamenei is no sweetheart either, and is the one who is actually pulling the strings in Iran. So, all in all, I don't think we should be applauding too loudly.
