Thoughts on Iraq: Who are the real experts? And what about Saddam?

Two quick thoughts on Iraq and the ISG:

• Why don’t we talk in-depth to those Iraqi people who think the situation would actually improve if we got out? After all, they are Iraqis who have lived with all the complexities of the society and who, unlike almost everyone else opining pompously about what we should or cannot do, speak Arabic. If the polls are genuine, such people are in the majority there. What do they know that we don’t?
• When we do pull out, what is to be done with Saddam Hussein if he is still alive? Obviously we cannot leave him there, as he probably remains a hero to many Sunnis and might be resurrected in some sense. Talk about it all being for naught – wow!!!

So what would we do, when one of the main purposes of pulling out would be to begin restoring our shredded reputation with the rest of the world? The Hague? Guantanamo?
