Walk and chew gum
Once again, our mainstream media have proved they can't walk and chew gum at the same time.
There were at least two major stories that broke yesterday. One, of course, was the Scooter Libby conviction. But, the other you might not even know about if you didn't read blogs. That's the story of the fired U.S. Attorneys and yesterday's Senate and House hearings.
So, where those mentioned? Last night, I watched PBS' Newshour from start to finish. There was not a single peep about the hearings. I have no idea what the commercial networks did, but I suspect they were similarly silent. This morning, you have to read the New York Times all the way in to page 14 before you find the story, and it's not much of a story, even at that, really more of an afterthought.
Meanwhile, the front page of the Times is filled with such important stuff as 1) Coke and Pepsi are trying to market their soft drinks as health foods, 2) There are some drug smugglers in the Arizona desert along the Mexican border, and 3) Osama bin Obama's broker bought some stocks in his (Obama's) name and without his knowledge that might have looked fishy (since the companies had major investors who were donors to Obama's campaign) except that he lost money on them anyway.
Another big story yesterday was the massacre of the Shi'ite pilgrims on their way to Karbala. That story didn't make the front page either, but there was a tickler about it on the front page referring you to page A10.
All I can do is bow and thank the gods of the Internet.
