Enforcing Civil Rights
You may have read today's piece in the NY Times describing how the Justice Department has completely reworked the thrust of its Civil Rights division to essentially exclude enforcement of laws against racial discrimination in favor of promoting religion by, for example, allowing schools to send home religious fliers with the children. I think Atrios has the perfect response:
I think these types of things are probably best fought with a little gonzo action. Just overload the system with Wiccans, Pastafarians, Rastafarians, Mormons, Scientologists, Satanists, Discoballmouseatarians, and every other religion which might not be seen as a "real religion" by the local powers that be until they begin to see that maybe this isn't such a good idea after all.
