IOKIYAR

The hypocrisy of the Republicans is so stunning it strains our intelligence to believe it's happening. One of the latest instances is the gushing support of Scooter Libby from all manner of conservative VIPs. These are the same people who wanted Bill Clinton impeached, convicted, tried in criminal court and hung by the neck till he died for lying about an extra-marital affair. Yet, here they are defending a guy convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice by a jury that was generally favorably disposed towards him, but which believed the evidence against him to be overwhelming.

Convicted felon G. Gordon Liddy, went on Hardball the other night, to add his two cents worth to the debate by offering up the "there was no underlying crime" refrain for the millionth time. When confronted with a question about whether there was an underlying crime in the Clinton situation, Liddy had the balls to duck the underlying crime issue entirely and said the two situations were entirely different. In Clinton's case, he said, there was forensic evidence (semen on a skirt). In Libby's case Liddy said, "it's just he said, she said." Of course, Liddy tries to make this sound as though there was a mere difference of opinion between two people. In fact, of course, there were many, many people who testified against Libby about several different circumstances where Libby lied. In every case, Libby's counter-arguments were almost laughable.

I guess it simply proves once again that IOKIYAR (It's okay if you're a Republican).

Maybe Liddy is dyslexic, and thinking the "b"s in Libby's name are actually "d"s, assumes Libby is a close relative.

Apparently Libby thought there was an underlying crime or he wouldn't have lied about it.
