Destroy the environment

Of all the things George Bush could do in the short-run to alleviate the imact of oil prices, he picked the absolute worst -- suspending environmental regulations on the oil companies. Just watch their profits soar even further.

The Dems, by contrast, are proposing a temporary suspension of the federal gas tax. I'm not sure I'm keen on that either, but of the two proposals, the second is certainly far better than the first.

One thing's clear. The Republicans are frightened to death by the high gas prices.
