Why can't we have a better press corps?

My letter to the editors of the NY Times in response to this editorial:

To the Editor:

While I heartily concur in your condemnation of the military tribunals act, I wish you would stop misleading your readers by arguing incorrectly that the animus of the act does not fall on American citizens. You state plainly, "The law does not apply to American citizens…" Wrong. While it is true that American citizens are specifically excluded from trial by the military tribunals, it is not true that they are unaffected by the law's suspension of habeas corpus. Once the president has declared a person, American citizen or otherwise, an enemy combatant, that person loses his right to seek relief from the courts under habeas corpus. Then, he can be imprisoned without trial for as long as the president chooses. While imprisoned, he can also be subjected to techniques that all but the president and his buddies would call torture.

Sincerely,

Outstanding! Succinct. That's why the scholars are making the dire pronouncements we hear. That is an incredibly important detail to get wrong -- and this is the friggin' New York Times.
