The surge

Updated below:

A new poll shows that the Iraqis overwhelmingly want us out, but all indications are that we're going send 20,000 additional troops for the temporary "surge" operation. All the king's horses and all the king's men can't ... As someone pointed out, al Maliki won't even let our troops into Sadr City now. 20,000 more troops isn't going to change that.

As Atrios says, if the extra troops go in, McCain will own the war. That's his plan. We'll see how he likes that in 2008.

Update:

I guess I'll have to eat my words. We raided Sadr City today:

BAGHDAD, Iraq - U.S. and Iraqi forces raided the overwhelmingly Shiite Sadr City slum on Tuesday and detained seven militia members, including one believed to have information about an American soldier kidnapped last month, the military said.
