One or two Friedman's from now, more of the same
So what's going to happen when, one or two Friedman's (six to twelve months) from now, it's clear that al Maliki hasn't done a tenth of what Bush claims he promised, the civil war continues to intensify, and the U.S. casualty count continues to mount at an accelerating rate?
Bush will say we can't pull out because we can't afford to lose in Iraq, so we'll have to stay. I mean the logic of this is endless. If there's no way we can afford to, and there's no way we can win, we just have to sit there being shot at forever. Sounds to me a bit like the French in Algeria.
Of course, by then we may be in an all out war with Iran and Syria too. Somehow, I don't think we'll win those wars either, particularly since we have no more troops.
