Peace is not an option

You may remember the reports a week or so ago that the Syrians and the Israelis had been privately negotiating a deal over the Golan Heights. Via Kevin Drum, we learn that, yes, the deal was being negotiated and both governments were at least informally involved in the negotiations. So what happened? Dick Cheney vetoed it, Bush agreed, and the Israelis backed away after learning that the U.S. was against it.

Great! One more time when we could have promoted peace and decided instead to promote war.
